Explain My Charity home

For charities, large and small

Your charity's work, explained clearly on video.

Explain My Charity turns your impact and annual reports, funding bids, campaigns, service guides, research, and trustee and policy papers into short, narrated, captioned explainer videos, so the people who matter to your cause understand them.

For supporters, funders, trustees, commissioners and the people you serve. The videos stay in your colours, and nothing goes out until you have approved the script.

Explain My Charity: your charity's work, explained on video (1:01, captioned). About this video and its transcript
  • Two sign-offs, not sixAn agency explainer asks for your sign-off at five or six stages. Here you approve a script and accept the video, and we do the rest.
  • Built, not generatedNo made-up facts: every word, number and chart on screen comes from your document, not from a model's guess.
  • You can edit every scriptYou have full control: edit the narration, and say what you want to see at each point in the video. Nothing is rendered until you approve it.
  • Captioned and accessibleCaptions and a transcript with every video. Captions can be translated into any language, and multilingual voiceovers are on our roadmap.

Who it's for

Any charity, trust or community group with a document that more people need to understand: a report, a bid, a campaign, a service or a decision.

  • Fundraising and supporter teams

Funding bids and grant applications, appeals and campaigns, explained for funders, donors and supporters in the time they have.

  • Trustees and leadership

Annual and impact reports, trustee papers and policy papers, explained for boards, commissioners, partners and the public.

  • Services and the people you serve

What a service offers, who it is for and how to use it, explained for beneficiaries, families, referrers and volunteers.

  • Research and evidence

Research, evaluations and evidence reviews, explained for commissioners, policymakers and the communities they are about.

Helping good work reach more people

Charities write a great deal that few people read in full: reports, bids, papers and guides. We built Explain My Charity so that the substance reaches the people it is for, in a form they will watch, at a price a small charity can pay.

Impact people can see

A short, accurate video shows supporters and funders what your work achieved, in your own figures and in words they can follow.

Bids that stand out

A captioned video alongside a funding bid or a report to a funder gives a busy assessor the case in brief, where the funder accepts one.

Within a charity's budget

We price it to be within reach of small charities and community groups, not as a premium service: £39 a video, before VAT.

Built, not generated

Generative AI video models paint every frame, so they can invent a number, a label or a result that sounds right but is not in your report. We do not use them. Each frame is built from your document's own words and figures, so what the video shows can be checked against the source, line by line.

1,237 videos rendered by our engine, using an estimated 710 kWh and about 12–44 kg CO2e less than an AI video model would have, our own AI drafting included (our numbers).

Two video frames showing the same chart. Left, painted by an AI video model: the title and axis labels are letter-shaped scribbles and the points are smeared blobs, because such a model can invent a number, a label or a result. Right, built from your report: the typeset title Sample figures: people helped each quarter, and eight sharp points plotted from the document's own numbers.
An illustration of the difference, with sample figures.

No made-up facts

Our software draws only what is in the script you approve, and the script is written from your document, with the page, table or figure behind each line noted so you can check it against the source.

Typeset, not painted

Every word on screen is typeset, so there is no garbled lettering and no text that is not in the script you approved.

Plotted from your figures

Charts are plotted from your own numbers: people supported, money raised, outcomes achieved. Nothing is rounded up or made to look better than the report says.

Drawn deliberately

Diagrams are drawn in code to show what the script says, not generated to look plausible. Labels stay legible and say what they are meant to.

Why AI video models get text, numbers and charts wrong, and how we keep videos true to your document.

AI-facilitated, not AI-generated

AI helps where it is useful. People decide what the video says.

You can edit every script

Our specialised AI agents draft a script from your document and send it to you. Then it is yours to edit. You have full control: change the narration, and say what you want to see at each point in the video. Nothing is rendered until you approve it, so what the video says is what you approved. For videos that will be published widely, you can add human review: one of our editors checks the script against your document and signs it off.

An honest, synthetic narrator

Choose from 28 high-quality synthetic voices in English: British and American, women and men, with different pitches and paces. Listen to each one on the order form. The voices run efficiently on our own machines, and every video says its narrator is synthetic. How we use AI.

How it works

Four steps from a document to a video you can publish.

  1. Upload the document

Send the PDF and tell us who the video is for: supporters, funders, trustees, commissioners or the people you serve.

  2. Read the script

We send you a draft script written for that audience. Add human review if you want an editor to check it against your document first.

  3. Edit it, then approve it

Edit the narration and say what you want to see, or ask us for changes. Nothing is rendered until you approve it.

  4. Get your video

A narrated, captioned video with a transcript, ready for your website, social media, newsletters and funder reports. 3 revision rounds are included; a round is one complete render of your video.

The whole process, from document upload to finished video, takes just a few minutes. How long it takes.

No booking in, no briefing call and no waiting weeks for a first cut. Your video can be ready for an appeal launch, an annual general meeting, a funder deadline or a campaign day.
